FCNL Workshop: Relationship Building with Members of Congress

  • Stony Point Center 17 Cricketown Road Stony Point, NY, 10980 United States (map)

"Those who love peace must learn to organize as effectively as those who love war." -Martin Luther King, Jr.

Learn how to build relationships with our Members of Congress so that they can be champions for justice and peace in the current "gridlock" environment.

The workshop will be led by Maiya Zwerling, the national field organizer for the Friends Committee on National Legislation, a Quaker Lobby in the Public Interest (www.fcnl.org), located in Washington, DC. We know that Congress is not making enough progress on the issues that matter most. But FCNL has an amazing track record of taking strategic steps every day to move Congress in the right direction. And that can't be done without strong grassroots work. This is an opportunity to get involved and advocate for what matter most to you with other faith-based folks. At the workshop, you will also learn basic skills in working with the media.

From this workshop, an FCNL Advocacy Team (made up of people of faith, Quakers and non-Quakers) will be launched to join with the dozens of other Advocacy Teams working all over the country to advocate regularly on a particular strategic issue (to be announced by FCNL on Jan. 4). You don't have to join the Advocacy Team to attend the workshop but after the workshop, you will be invited to consider it.
